We all are heavily dependant on our phones and laptops. We keep checking for updates on social networking sites and keep texting someone or the other. We even continue to text while we are laying down and have plugged the charger of the phone in. All of this can make us feel really happy! But at times it might get overwhelming for a few.Digital Detox is for everyone who uses electronic devices like mobiles and laptops and are addicted to it.

What is Digital Detox?

Digital Detox means staying away from electronic devices on which one heavily depends, with the intention of being more healthy and socially active in the real world.

How long should it be done?

Usually it is done for a day or two, but we all know that is not possible. That’s why a daily digital detox of at least two to three hours of your FREE TIME (apart from sleeping time) must be done for making it more efficient.

When should it be done?

It should be done at the time of your day when you do not have any responsibilities. All important people in your life should be informed that you are going on a detox for a few hours prior to initiate it.

What could you do in a Daily Digital Detox?

  1. The first step is to put all the electronic items away. mobile phones should be put on silent mode or switched off and in the drawer so that you do not get distracted by it.
  2. Secondly you have to realise what you want to do in your free time. Clean your closet? Sit with your family? go for a walk? cook something? Make a drawing? Meet up with old friends? learn something new?
  3. Time yourself. Do not use the mobile phone to see the time. In the beginning of these detox hours you might find it difficult to stay away from your electronic fifth limb, but try your best to reach the mark of two hours.

What are the advantages?

Digital Detox will make you feel reconnected to the real world, with real people. It will improve your social life and will lead to better relations, it will also improve the eyesight asĀ persistent use of electronic devices like mobile phones, computers for a prolonged amount of time can harm the vision.

Daily Digital Detox is for a short amount of time and hence easier to achieve. First try to achieve it forĀ an hour if you found it too tough to stay away from your phones. By doing that for a while will make it a habit, then when it became a regular habit, it won’t be hard as much as it used to be. Beside habit is the reason what keeps us glued with certain nasty habits that we want to get rid, but still hard to keep off from them.
